Medication-Assisted
Treatment (MAT)
Medication-Assisted treatment(MAT) combines the use of safe and effective medications with behavioral therapy to help patients manage their cravings, reduce their withdrawal symptoms, and achieve long-lasting recovery.
Using medications such as Buprenorphine/Naloxone (Suboxone), Naltrexone, and Vivitrol, MAT helps patients overcome their opioid and alcohol dependency. These medications significantly reduce the risk of relapse, with patients up to 10 times more likely to remain substance-free during their treatment.
But MAT isn’t just about managing physical symptoms. It’s about building a solid foundation for recovery. This includes addressing emotional and psychological challenges, developing healthy coping strategies, and adequately preparing to transition to a medication-free lifestyle when it's appropriate to do so.
- Outpatient Tapering and DetoxificationIt’s no secret that detoxing from opioids or other substances can be a scary and uncomfortable process. However, our outpatient tapering and detox programs are specially designed to help ease you through this transition. We use personalized medication regimens to minimize your withdrawal symptoms and create a much smoother path to sobriety.
- Recovery as a Lifelong EffortRecovery from addiction is a lifelong journey. MAT acts as a bridge to help patients establish a firm foundation. Depending on the individual's unique needs, this process often lasts 6–12 months or longer.
Once stability has been achieved, the medications are carefully tapered under medical supervision. This gives our patients the opportunity to transition to ongoing recovery efforts without being dependent on medication.

Behavioral Health Services
At Procura Pain & Spine, our behavioral health services go beyond just managing addiction. We take a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to treating the emotional and mental health challenges that often come along with chronic pain and substance dependency.
- Evaluation and Management of Co-occurring Disorders Conditions like anxiety, depression, and insomnia are common among individuals who are facing chronic pain or addiction. If left unmanaged, these symptoms can significantly increase the risk of relapse. Our team provides thorough assessments and customized treatment programs to address co-occurring disorders and ensure holistic recovery.
- Medication ManagementManaging co-occurring mental health conditions often requires ongoing medication support. Our clinicians work closely with you to find the right balance of treatments to stabilize any symptoms and support your long-term well-being.
- Recovery Coaching and CounselingEarly recovery can be one of the most challenging stages, often filled with stress and uncertainty. Our counseling services include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), relapse prevention therapy, and biofeedback to help patients build resilience and strength as they make their way through the recovery process. We also offer peer support and individualized coaching to provide guidance and encouragement.
- Collaborative CareFor patients already working with a counselor or therapist, we offer complementary care to ensure the seamless integration of medical and behavioral health services.
Frequently Asked Questions About Behavioral Health
Substance Use Disorder is a clinical diagnosis based on patterns of compulsive substance use that range from mild to severe. While often used interchangeably, addiction is a societal term. SUD includes behaviors like chemical coping and dependency and involves changes in brain function that can make it very difficult to control substance use.
A formal diagnosis requires a complete assessment by a medical or behavioral health professional. However, if you find yourself using substances compulsively, struggling to stop, or experiencing negative consequences because of your use, it’s worth getting professional guidance.
MAT combines medications with counseling and behavioral therapies. The medications reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms, which allows you to focus on building the emotional and mental skills that are needed for proper recovery. Research shows that combining medication with therapy offers the highest possible chance of success.
Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation with a board-certified addiction medicine physician. This meeting focuses on understanding your needs, goals, and barriers to recovery. Together, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan designed to help you achieve long-term success.
Our practice combines compassionate pain management with effective substance abuse treatment. We offer a comprehensive, outpatient-based approach that addresses the physical and mental aspects of recovery.
