TenJet Procedure Q & A
What is the TenJet procedure?
The TenJet procedure is a potential treatment for chronic tendinopathy (long-term tendon damage and pain). It offers an alternative to ultrasonic, mechanical, or radiofrequency tools that are tissue-selective and doesn't rely on heat energy.
Minimally invasive TenJet uses two-channel 12-gauge needles under the guidance of real-time ultrasound imaging to remove damaged tendon tissues. It delivers a controlled supersonic saline (saltwater) stream that acts as a blade to cut away the target tissues without affecting healthy areas nearby.
At the same time, the Venturi suction system takes away the diseased tissue. TenJet consists of single-use hand-held instruments that hold, cut, or ablate tissue more quickly and accurately than surgical approaches.
When might I need to undergo the TenJet procedure?
The TenJet procedure is an effective treatment for repetitive strain injuries such as:
- Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
- Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis)
- Plantar fasciitis
- Patellar tendonitis
- Quadriceps tendonitis
- Achilles tendonitis
- Rotator cuff tendonitis
- Gluteus medius tendonitis and bursitis
- Calcific tendonitis
For many patients, conservative treatments like physical therapy, stem cell therapy, medication, and steroid injections adequately resolve such conditions. However, if you don’t benefit from traditional methods, your provider might suggest the TenJet procedure.
What happens when I undergo the TenJet procedure?
TenJet is typically an outpatient procedure that only requires a local anesthetic at the treatment site, although IV (intravenous) sedation is also available if needed. The process takes about 30 minutes, and you shouldn't feel any discomfort.
As TenJet is minimally invasive, most patients don't need stitches afterward. You might experience some soreness at the treatment site when the local anesthetic wears off, but this doesn't usually last more than a couple of days.
You should feel an improvement in your symptoms between four and twelve weeks after your TenJet procedure. You can optimize your recovery by following the personalized rehabilitation plan the team at Procura Pain and Spine prepares for you.
If you have chronic pain and impaired function because of a damaged tendon, the TenJet procedure is a safe, effective option that could work when other treatments don't.
